Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.
It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after spring of that year.
Victory also means he has achieved 21 victories at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
