The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue
Whenever a significant honors show approaches, you'll find a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
The Representation Problem
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely in 2014
- A different innovative game received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
- Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
